Bruce J. Gitlin, founder and executive director of the New York Center for Law and Justice, is an attorney admitted to practice law in New York State. Mr. Gitlin was admitted to the New York State bar in 1981 after graduating from Fordham Law School (1980) where he is currently enrolled in a Master of Laws program and Cornell University (1977) where he currently serves on the University Council. He was an associate in a personal injury practice, later an associate in the litigation department of Rosenman & Colin and, in August, 1986, following Rosenman & Colin, he established, and continues to maintain, a private practice, specializing in the field of personal injury.

Mr. Gitlin has served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. Additionally, Mr. Gitlin has served on the Board of Directors of the New York Center for Law and the Deaf, a not-for-profit organization committed to assisting the deaf and hard of hearing with legal issues.

Mr. Gitlin has been serving the deaf and hard of hearing community since 1981 and studies sign language to assist in representing this unique community. Mr. Gitlin is a past member of Legal Issues Affecting People with Disabilities Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he has lectured on issues involving the rights of the deaf.

Mr. Gitlin currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Cornell Hillel as well as serving on the Board of Governors of the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists. Mr. Gitlin is a former member of the Board of Trustees of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun and past member of the Board of Directors of the Abraham Fund. He is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the Disability Rights Bar Association.

Mr. Gitlin studies in the evening at the Academy for Jewish Religion, a pluralistic seminary, where his goal is to receive rabbinical ordination.
